On Feb 28th Ted Talks posted a video titled: Kevin Allocca: Why Videos go viral. I can’t link to it from the comments, but you can search YouTube. Kevin said three reasons videos go viral include…
1. Unexpectedly funny, weird, surprising, cute, informative…
2. Tastemakers endorse your video on their blog, twitter, TV show etc…
3. Community participation including comments, sharing, remixes, parodies…
Really great info for beginners. Thanks

Another thought from @guygal… A good YouTube video breaks the 4th wall. For example, you might encourage interaction by asking the audience to rate the video or subscribe to your channel. You could spark the conversation by asking them what video to they want to see next in the series. It has to be done tactfully, but this is why many of the DYI channels have been so successful.
From @guygal… There are two types of videos that do well on YouTube; burst & evergreen. With burst videos is all about speed. Can you get in front of the news cycle with timely content. With burst videos if you’re a day late, you’re a dollar short. The other type of video are evergreen videos. You want to get off to a strong start, but these videos might still be relevant 2-3 years later. For these types of videos search traffic is super important.
